Steel Look Heritage Doors, York – Yes they are aluminium!
The Property:
A charming late 19th-century mid-terraced house in the historic city of York, featuring a carefully considered rear extension. Constructed using reclaimed local red brickwork, the extension has been sensitively designed to respect and enhance the character of the original property while providing modern, functional living space.
The Requirement:
A specific requirement for a ‘steel look-alike’ steel alternative French door scheme with fixed side lights and run-through glazing transoms in a slim frame thermally efficient aluminium system.
A very low threshold detail and maximum glass areas were essential features of the design.
It was also important to the owners that outer frame sight lines were visibly equal around the perimeter of the outer frame.
Part of the specification was to incorporate a cat flap within one of the lower corner sealed units.
The Solution:
Marlin Windows Alitherm Heritage Door system was recommended as the perfect steel replacement solution to meet all of the owners requirements.
Marlin used dedicated system components in critical areas to ensure an equal outer frame sight line on both sides of the door scheme – this was particularly important so as not to ‘bury’ the side light frames with the internal final floor finish as the door threshold detail needed to be as low as possible.
