The Property:
A ‘Grand Designs’ project located on the fringe of Ilkley Moor in West Yorkshire. A truly unique high specification contemporary private residence created on the site of the former Hawksworth Moor Service Reservoir.
The accommodation is based around three individual structures with a central courtyard nestled within the existing walls of the reservoir. Comprising of the main house, guest block, large gym with offices, garaging and parking areas.
Constructed within a highly insulated building envelope to minimise heat losses the house is designed to high environmental standards including ground and air source heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation, solar water heating, PV panels and specialist glazing to ensure the maximum influx of natural light with unobstructed views.
The Requirement:
To follow a strict design brief lead by the client and architect whilst ensuring the maximum influx of natural light with unobstructed views across Ilkley Moor and the Wharfe Valley.
With large glazed areas throughout the property, excellent thermal performance was also necessary as a contributing factor in the overall thermal efficiency of this eco sustainable building.
The Solution:
Smart architectural aluminium glazing was used throughout the entire development as a total solution to meet design criteria, thermal targets and operational performance.
Marlin were able to combine a wide range of Smart glazing systems to provide the desired appearance to all locations including the framework to the curved roof which is a true 'one off'.
This included Visoglide Plus sliding doors, Visofold 1000 bi fold doors, Alitherm Plus residential doors, Smart Wall glass screens and Visoline windows with structural glazing used to create the main entrance.
