What to consider when choosing floor to ceiling windows:
1. Wow factor design feature
Floor to ceiling windows can make a stunning architectural feature and are available in a wide range of made to measure styles for most applications.
2. Combining floor to ceiling windows with doors
Full height floor to ceiling windows naturally match with full height sliding or bi-fold doors. If you have a house extension with views to be maximised then combining floor to ceiling windows and doors works incredibly well.
View examples of this in the Marlin Windows Ilkley new build and Thorpe Hall installations featured below.
3. Cost of floor to ceiling windows
Marlin windows and doors are custom made to measure. The best way to find out the cost of floor to ceiling windows is to ask us for a free no obligation quote for your project.
4. Privacy and Shading
Floor to ceiling windows can induce a feeling of openness. Should you wish to overcome this we have options that include tinted glass, mirror glass and integral blinds which don’t obscure the architectural profile detailing like curtains or fabric blinds.
5. Thermal properties
Look for thermally broken aluminium profiles with double glazed sealed units that have a centre pane U Value of 1.2 W/m2 or lower
Marlin floor to ceiling windows meet this high level of thermal performance as standard.
6. Enlarging existing openings
Existing openings can often be enlarged to house floor to ceiling windows. This can transform darker spaces flooding them with new natural light and enhancing an open view
7. Glass size
Once the realm of commercial buildings, larger doubled glazed sealed units can now be specified for residential projects to meet domestic building regulation compliance for large glass areas.
To find out what is possible, discuss your project with a friendly Marlin Technical Advisor.
8. Safety
At Marlin we use toughened glass as standard. However, some projects with floor to ceiling glass have a requirement for containment where we specify a double-glazed sealed unit for guarding/prevention from fall.
9. Security
Our floor to ceiling feature glazing with toughened glass as standard is highly secure. Laminated glass is also available as an option or as part of the latest compliance for certain glazing elements of a new build construction in the UK.
Door locking systems are fully protected as standard with the tried and tested Police recommended Avocet ABS euro cylinder.
